En route pour la Floride ~ On our way to Florida

We left on November 8th and stopped at the Shoreline Casino in Gananoque ON for our first night. Early the next morning, we were ready to enter the USA. We were surprised with a dusting of snow on the ground and a small snow storm while on the road. It didn't last long and everything cleared up before we got to Syracuse. On our way, we slept at one Wal-Mart (Chambersburg, PA) and in State Parks.

Our first State Park was at Rolling View in Fall Lake SP 4* in NC. We visited the city of Raleigh NC, the capital of North Carolina. We walked downtown and visited the Museum of History (free). We saw the "Quilt Speak" and the "Toy Boom" exhibits. Quilt Speak displayed different quilts created by women to express their voices that have long been silenced by illiteracy, exhaustion, racial oppression  and gender inequality. The Toy Boom exhibit displayed toys from the 50's & 60's like the Etch a Sketch, Hot Wheels, Lite Brite, Easy Bake oven and many more.  Being in the city on the Nov 11th, it gave us the opportunity to take  moment to thank our War Vets by leaving our poppy at one of the monuments. We then visited the small town of Wake Forest, NC and walked along the Main Street Historic District. We saw about 50 historical home that are dated from 1820.

We continued our journey south and stopped for 3 nights near St Marys in Georgia. We stayed in Crooked River SP 5* where the sites are enormous. We visited Jekyll Island, a beautiful coastal island. In 2018, Architectural Digest named the island the 11th most beautiful small town in America. We took a tram tour in the Historic District and visited inside DuBignon Cottage, Moss Cottage and Faith Chapel.  We then drove in Brunswick, where we saw a tall ship, in Kingsland and St Marys, where we walked in a beautiful park by the Atlantic Ocean Intracoastal Waterway.

For the last two nights before entering Florida, we stayed at the Stephen C Foster SP 3*, located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. While here we visited the Okefenokee Swamp Park, approx. 1hr30 minutes away. We enjoyed a train and a boat ride tour thru the swamp. The guides explained to us about the swamp vegetation and animals in the area. We attended a reptile presentation where we were able to handle a small alligator and a snake. While we walked in the park, we had the opportunity to see many alligators and various type of turtles. We really enjoyed our day in the park.
